Here is an important fact: Missed areas can ruin a project like this one.
Don't worry about "streaky" areas.  They'll actually support the look, but a missed area can really screw things up.  Those little white spots will look horrible if they aren't caught before the metallic glaze goes on, so take the time to go over every inch with adequate lighting before moving forward.  In fact, do this twice, and if at all possible have a second set of eyes go over it, too.  The effort you put in now will really pay off later.
