9/27/2005     The new scaffolding arrived today.  This marks the beginning of a new phase of this website because height has been an obstacle with getting some very important things taken care of and now I can scramble up to the roof with less worry than if I had tried any of this with a ladder.  I also want to take a second here to highly recommend the Lynne Scaffolding company where we purchased our 30' of scaffolding for only $1,200 including shipping.  Everyone else wanted about $2,500.
10/27/2005      Where does the time go?  Has it really been a month since I bought that stuff?
I put myself to the test to see if I could erect the scaffolding by myself and did so without mishap.  I then hit Lowes and bought a ton of stuff for the repairs, however the furnace guys showed up and installed two new furnace units in the cellar.  I have to admit it was worth the extra delay because now we don't have to worry about this place blowing to pieces in the middle of the night.
     Tomorrow the external repairs begin.
11/10/2005      Many of the recent repairs to this side tied in with the roof so I put the entries in that journal.
The issue of corbels has been a little bit of a problem, though.  I've decided that there should be five under each overhang and that cutting and building them wouldn't be in our best interest.  Beth pushed this idea so it became unanimous in about thirty seconds.  We found several options but in the end it was Lowes that won the day.  They carry some really nice, lightweight plastistyreen models that we could choose from and since this will be the first exterior touches to give the place real oomph we went with a line that's somewhat fancy.  We don't mind the modern materials since if there ever were corbels in that area of the house they vanished many decades ago.  Also, the ones we chose will make the house look even 'better than new'.
10/8/2007    I've broken down and decided that I'm hiring a crew to take on this side of the house.  They will arrive tomorrow morning at 9:00AM and do almost half of this side for $1,300 which will include removing the shingles, power washing, priming and painting.  Winter is coming fast and I need to get this done as quickly as possible.
Also, I am getting old and climbing up 40 feet has lost its appeal for me.  Let someone else fall and break their neck.
10/10/2007      The guys we hired have half of their contracted area primed and the other half is stripped.  It's amazing to see it going this fast and it will soon be nice to pull off the Potomac River bridge and then look up to see our house in living color and not just the front side!
